NYC has a huge number of volleyball courts scattered all over the city.
There’s an excellent selection of outdoor and beach volleyball courts, as well as properly organized indoor volleyball.
Indoor Volleyball Courts In New York City, NY
When it comes to indoor volleyball courts, there’s really only a few options: Big City Volleyball, NY Urban, and Gotham Volleyball.

Big City Volleyball Indoor Volleyball Courts
Big City Volleyball is one of the largest volleyball organizations in New York City. They do everything from indoor to beach, from rec leagues to volleyball classes.
Their indoor volleyball courts are located in Brooklyn and you’re able to use the facilities by participating in any of their classes or volleyball leagues.

NY Urban Professionals Indoor Volleyball Courts
NY Urban Professionals have indoor volleyball courts located in Manhattan which can be used inexpensively during their open play sessions.
They also offer regular clinics and one of the better volleyball leagues in NYC.

Gotham Volleyball Indoor Volleyball Courts
Gotham Volleyball also have indoor volleyball courts and run classes as well as regular league games.
Gotham Volleyball is a volunteer run gay volleyball community that have been promoting LGBTQ acceptance within sports for over 4 decades.
They easily have the most fabulous volleyball community in NYC!

Esplanade Plaza Outdoor Volleyball Court
The Esplanade Plaza is home to a single outdoor volleyball court overlooking the Hudson river.
There is unfortunately only one court here, but it’s a great facility with excellent equipment that is completely free to use.
Fantastic Volleyball Community
There’s no shortage of community vibes down at the EP court and you’ll likely be able to find others who are happy to play with you here.

StuyTown Outdoor Volleyball Court
StuyTown is home to a variety of sports amenities including a volleyball court which is open for public use.
With a great quality net, this is one of the best options on the east side.

Great Lawn Outdoor Volleyball Courts
Central Park is home to a number of volleyball courts, one of which can be found right in the middle of the park at the Great Lawn.
This is a concrete court that is definitely a little rough around the edges.
The net and court aren’t particularly well maintained, but they do the job.
The level of play can get quite high on the weekends at this court.

East Outdoor Volleyball Courts
If you find yourself near Queens, there’s no shortage of outdoor sports facilities in the area, including a couple of volleyball courts.
Sand Volleyball Courts In New York City, NY
For the beach volleyball lovers out there, New York City has a ton of public sand volleyball courts and no shortage of fairly high level competition!

There’s 3 really well maintained beach volleyball courts at the Hudson River Park, Pier 25 in Lower Manhattan
You will need to book the court online a week in advance and they cost $100 per hour to rent.
You’re allowed a max of 12 people per court and can’t book more than 1 court.
Although it’s not cheap, it definitely softens the blow if you’ve got 4+ people willing to split the cost.
This is definitely one of the best places to play beach volleyball in NYC.

Central Park Sand Volleyball Courts
Another popular spot for volleyball in Central Park are the 2 beach volleyball courts located on the opposite side to the Great Lawn courts.
They’re free to use and quite often get some decent level pick up beach volleyball going.
The people there are super friendly and are usually very happy to include others.
It does get quite crowded at times so I wouldn’t always expect to get a game.
The court is also really far from the the public restrooms, which is a little annoying.
The fence around the courts is very low which makes chasing after balls somewhat time consuming, but otherwise this is an excellent place to play beach volleyball in NYC!

Domino Park Beach Volleyball Court
Located right on the water next to Williamsburg Bridge is a fantastically maintained beach volleyball court at Domino Park.
There is only a single volleyball court but it’s free to use and the equipment is top notch.

Brooklyn Bridge Park – Pier 6 Beach Volleyball Courts
Right down the bottom of Brooklyn Bridge Park on Pier 6 are 3 beach volleyball courts.
The facility looks great and is free to use.
Big City Volleyball runs a beach volleyball league in this location but you’re allowed to use the courts when they aren’t being used.
Youth Volleyball In New York City, NY
If you’re looking for youth volleyball leagues in New York City, there’s a couple of great options to choose from, with options for all ages.

Located in Brooklyn, Big City Volleyball has one of the larger youth volleyball leagues which are ideal for beginners.
The organization of the BCV management has at times been criticized, but their coaches are always commended for their excellent work.

NYC Volleyballers Youth Volleyball Program
NYC Volleyballers run a youth volleyball training program out of StuyTown.
This program is for 7-14 year olds and is more of a training program than it is a competition/league, although game elements are of course involved in the sessions.

New York City has a great selection of adult volleyball leagues with varying levels of competition.
Whether you’re just looking to play recreationally or are a serious volleyballer, there’s a league for you.

NY Urban Professionals Adult Volleyball League
The NY Urban volleyball league has the greatest depth of any in the NYC area.
This volleyball league has well over 100 teams participating each week including men’s, women’s, and coed volleyball across multiple divisions.
This is probably the best option for advanced volleyballers looking for high level competition.
But regardless of your skill level, there’s a league that’ll cater to you as a player.
NY Urban has some of the most affordable season fees too.

Big City Volleyball offers an Adult coed league as well as an adult women’s league (unfortunately no men’s league).
The women’s league is aimed at intermediate to advanced players only, so this might not be the most beginner friendly option.
The leagues at BCV tend to be very well run and have received a number of excellent reviews.

QBK Sports Adult Beach Volleyball League
When it comes to beach volleyball leagues, QBK Sports is the best in the business.
They have both recreational and intermediate leagues in beach sixes and fours (6v6 and 4v4 matches).
With a full bar and food available, this is the ideal place for a couple drinks and some beach volleyball!

The Gotham Volleyball leagues offer a huge range of competition with a number of divisions catering to all ability levels.

NYC Volleyballers hold youth volleyball classes out of StuyTown, suitable for ages 7-14.

BCV offer multiple week long summer camps from the end of June through til September.
There are both indoor and outdoor camps and the prices are really affordable.

QBK Sports Beach Volleyball Summer Camps
QBK Sports run week long summer camps for ages 9-16 aimed at teaching the fundamentals of beach volleyball.
They’re definitely more expensive than the BCV camps, but these camps are beach volleyball specific.

If you’re looking for recreational volleyball in New York City, and don’t want the time or monetary commitment of a club/league, there’s a few great open gym options where you can simply show up and find a game.

NYC Volleyballers are best known for their youth clinics as well as private coaching.
The private lessons typically run out of StuyTown and are run by a professional coach.

If you’re looking for volleyball trainers in New York City, I’d start by looking at the ‘private volleyball lessons’ section above.
Your other option would be to join a league (see above) in which teams train regularly and have experienced coaching staff.
Also available are a number of excellent classes (discussed above) that are professionally run by experienced coaches.

If you’re balling on a budget, your best option would be to head down to one of the many public volleyball courts throughout the city.
Most of these are completely free to use and quite often you’re able to find other players who are happy to include you in a game of pick up volleyball.
